Several calls are coming in regarding the lack of affordable accommodation in Darwin and the associated costs of any available, for the period of the Karting Championships.

Now that school has recommenced, Darwin has “come alive” again. The DKA Committee will not know if any of the enquiries will be successful.

Please stay tuned to the DKA Website and as soon as we have the responses from the various Organisations the outcomes will be published.

The DKA Committee thank you for your patience and understanding and assure you that while we are not in a position to make promises we are trying our very best to overcome this pressing issue.

BREAKTHROUGH WIN FOR MOORE IN HOME TITLES

Michael Moore has upstaged a stellar field of drivers to be crowned state champion in the Northern Territory State Championships at the Hidden Valley Kart Track on the weekend.

Moore, who started his career ten years ago at the age of seven, was lost for words following his victory in the highly-competitive Clubman Light category. “It's an amazing feeling, I’m over the moon,” said Moore, who drove an Australian-made Omega kart on his way to victory.
“After qualifying fastest I was able to be right up there in the heat races and then managed to get a jump in both the pre-final and final while the guys behind me battled amongst each other.
“It's my first win at a state championship against some of the best drivers from all across the country. With the nationals being held here in Darwin next year it is a huge confidence boost.
“There is no doubt this is the biggest win of my career and big thanks must go to Kym Pearce of Omega Karts for all of his help across the weekend.”

Finishing second behind the local driver was Sydneysider Jacob Parsons with Western Australian driver Nathan Davis third. Fast femme Magdeline Breed was fourth ahead of former champion Matthew Panella, who charged his way from the back of the field after failing to finish the pre-final.

Moore was joined in the winner’s circle by fellow Territorian Royce Nott. The Fujitsu Cool Development driver added the Leopard Light championship to his resume when he crossed the line ahead of Adam Garnaut.

Michael Moore & Royce Nott

The battle for the lead during the early running of the Clubman Heavy championship final was an intense one with the likes of five-time Australian Champion Kip Foster, Simon Hodge, Adam Levi, Daniel Nolan and Daniel Baker exchanging positions.
The top five were swapping positions on almost every corner, lap after lap, before a scuffle for second place allowed Foster to open a race-winning lead. The West Australian crossed the line well clear of Baker and Hodge, who filled the second and third steps on the podium.

In the Junior National Light category it was South Australian Luke Marquis who claimed his second state championship in as many weeks - the 15 year-old won the Queensland Championship in Warwick the week prior.
Marquis was challenged early in the final by Victorian Thomas Randle, Jake Klein and Damon Strongman before showing superior speed to claim the victory.

Current Australian Champion Anton de Pasquale proved superior in the Junior National Heavy category to claim the win over South Australian Todd Hazelwood.

Hazelwood reversed the order when the pair went head to head in the Junior Clubman category to claim the prestigious ‘blue plate’ awarded to the winner.

In the fastest Junior category contested at the weekend, Junior Max, it was New South Wales teenager Joseph Burton-Harris who showed the field a clean pair of heels all throughout the weekend.
Burton-Harris took the win by a significant distance in the championship final ahead of James Allen and Jesse Elliott.

After a good fight with Jake Meyer, it was Western Australian Lee Foster who was victorious by the narrowest of margins in the Clubman Super Heavy category.

In the battle of the youngsters, it was Sam Dicker and Nikola Mitic who was victorious in the Midgets and Rookies categories respectively.

Many of the competitors from the weekend’s event will be returning to the Hidden Valley venue to contest next year’s National Championships to be held in Darwin on July 6-8, 2012.

2011 NORTHERN TERRITORY STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hidden Valley Kart Track - Darwin, NT

Midgets
1.
The Darwin Karting Association held Round 6 of the Championships last Sunday on a cold and windy morning making racing interesting due to the cooler conditions than normal.

Rookie pointscore front runner Tom Maxwell was absent which allowed Jordan Smith and Alison Lamb a taste of victory. Jordan who hasn’t had the best of starts to the year made up for it in style winning 3 out of 4 races with Alison coming 2nd followed by Matthew Sealy.

Midget driver Kale Quinlan reinstated his first place ranking in the pointscrore to convincingly win all 4 races in front of last rounds winner Tom Lamb followed by Kasey Fullwood.

The Junior National Light class didn’t disappoint the spectators with the club welcoming back Blake Adcock after a 2 year break from racing, Blake slotted straight back into the pointy end but unfortunately was disqualified due to being underweight. The first two heats were won convincingly by Jake Smith who left the other competitors in their tracks, after lunch Bryce Fullwood pulled out all stops to win the 3rd heat in front of Jake and followed up with a win in the final after a late charge from Brodie Green who came out 2nd best after an ambitions passing manoeuvre. Nathan Norman drove a very consistent race meet to finish 3rd on the podium for the day. Junior National Heavy was a one horse race with Matthew Grant the only competitor for the day.

The highly contested Clubman Light Class had 12 members competing for line honors with Royce Nott coming up trumps winning 3 out of 4 races. The racing was very tight with 3 karters jostling for 2nd and 3rd place. Final standings were Royce Nott 1st, Kevin Norman 2nd and John-Daniel Luke 3rd.

Kevin Norman

Clubman Heavy was again won by Darren Chilton winning 3 out of 4 races. Racing was close with all 5 karters in the class jostling for major positions, Zoe Breed came out trumps securing 2nd place with Adam Hughes and Brett Jenkin sharing 3rd place.

The Tag classes were small due to the public holiday with Tag Restricted Light driver Andrew Page driving his own race and Tag 125 Light competitors David O’Dowd and Patrick Hamon placing 1st and 2nd respectively.

Championship Round 7 will be held on Sunday 26th June from 10am, family, friends and interested persons are encouraged to come down and have a look and support the next generation of young guns before our NT Go-Kart Titles being held between 8th - 10th July where they will be pitted against some of the best karters in Australia.

Rookie Start
